Tele-Rheumatology Patient

"People have asked me if I thought tele-medicine was somehow hindering my care and I can emphatically share - NO! Actually, it was a huge blessing because it allowed me to connect with an extremely good doctor from the comfort of my own home. I never feel rushed and we seem to accomplish an immeasurable amount in each appointment."

Grace D

"My doctor was immediately very warm, personable and genuinely interested in getting to know who I was as a person, not just a patient. He asked very detailed questions about my history and symptoms, and put pieces of my medical puzzle right in-front of me. It all finally made sense."

FAQs

How does scheduling with a specialist work?

Scheduling with a Teams by Beam specialist is simple:

  • Complete the patient intake form. You will be asked to provide information on a HIPAA-compliant platform to ensure the specialist has a clear understanding of your medical history and symptoms to help provide you with recommendations.
  • Request an E-Consult or Virtual Consult. Once a member of our team reviews your information and finds we can meet your needs, your E-Consult will be requested or you will be sent a link to schedule your Virtual Visit.
  • Leave the rest to us! Upon completion of either service, the specialist will compose a consult note with impressions and suggestions. This can be shared directly with your primary care provider as well.
How much does an appointment cost?

A Virtual Consult with a rheumatologist costs $399. An E-Consult costs $199. The average wait time for an appointment is 7 days. You can book an appointment here.

In comparison, the national average cost to see a rheumatologist varies from $300-600, and wait times are typically 6-12 weeks.

Prior to processing your payment, a member of our medical team will review your medical information from your primary care provider to ensure that our team can meet your needs. If our team determines that your care would be better served by in-person care, or that we are not the best choice for you for another reason, you will not be charged for the appointment.

Do I need to have insurance?

No, you do not need insurance.

What states do you provide services in?

Teams by Beam provides on-demand rheumatology services in the following states:

  • Kansas
  • Maryland
  • Minnesota
  • Texas
  • Wisconsin

If you do not live in one of these states, we are not able to provide you with rheumatology services at this time. More states are coming soon.

What should I bring to my appointment?

You should bring the following to your initial virtual appointment:

  • Any previous labs, X-ray/ultrasound/MRI test results, and doctors' notes for review. If possible, your referring physician should send medical records. It is important to ensure that as much information is available to the rheumatologist on your first visit as possible.
  • An up-to-date medication list with the specific dosages you are taking. Also include a list of medications you have already tried (to reduce duplication of prior treatments).
  • A list of allergies and medication intolerances.
  • Your family history, including any known relatives with rheumatologic/autoimmune disease. Find out and list all aspects of your family history – no matter how trivial you feel it may be.
  • A list of all previous medical problems, surgeries, travel history, sleep habits, diet, exercise, and social history (e.g., education, occupation, sports, use of illicit drugs, etc.).
What should I expect from my rheumatology visit?

Rheumatic diseases are sometimes complex and difficult to diagnose, so rheumatologists will gather a complete medical history and perform an exam to look for signs and symptoms that may give clues to the cause of the problem.

The rheumatologist will review the results of any prior testing. They may suggest additional laboratory tests, imaging studies (X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan or MRI), or other tests to assess for additional potential clues to the possible cause of your musculoskeletal problem. A rheumatologist may make further recommendations about recurring conditions or talk with patients about medications, coping mechanisms, techniques for preventing disability or regaining function, and ways to improve their quality of life. These may include:

  • Medications
  • Referral to physical or occupational therapy
  • Referral to other specialists
  • Joint/tendon injections

During follow-up appointments, rheumatologists may make further recommendations about reoccurring conditions or talk with patients about medications, coping mechanisms, techniques for preventing disability or regaining function, and ways to improve their quality of life.

Will the rheumatologist prescribe medications or perform followup care?

Teams by Beam rheumatologists will not prescribe medications nor perform followup care. Our doctors work in tandem with your primary care provider to provide specialist recommendations regarding care.
